Volunteers Wanted for Outdoor Action This Spring!
The Tsarino Foundation invites adventurous souls to join us in the Rhodopi Mountains this May and June — a season of growth, creativity, and community.
So, what’s happening?
We’re looking for volunteers to help us during two periods: May and June 2026.
Period 1 — May 2026
This May, we invite you to roll up your sleeves and help bring the village into its spring season. Together, we’ll complete the building works for the new bathhouse and tend to shared community spaces. Days will unfold through hands-on work with cement, wood, and stone, shaped by sunlight, shared meals, and plenty of laughter — while a wild sea of ferns slowly springs to life, reclaiming the village around us.
This work is very valuable and will help lay the foundations for the second period, described below.
Period 2 — June 2026
In June, Tsarino becomes a lively creative laboratory as we host our artist-in-residence programme. Around ten artists will live and work in the village, developing new projects inspired by the landscape and everyday local life, leading up to a public event and presentation.
Volunteers play a key role during this period. We’re looking for extra hands to help hold the residency together and create a welcoming, supportive environment for both artists and the local community. This might include cooking shared meals, helping organise daily rhythms, assisting artists with practical tasks, and simply being present — sharing conversations, stories, and time. In return, expect long summer days, meaningful connections, and joyful evenings around the campfire, with fireflies lighting up the night.
What we offer:
-
A stay in the historic village of Tsarino, tucked deep in the Bulgarian Rhodope Mountains
-
Time to slow down, connect with nature and the surrounding landscape
-
Live in a characterful traditional Bulgarian village house, rich with history and atmosphere
-
Three wholesome, home-cooked meals each day, shared together
-
Two full free days per week to rest, read, wander, or explore at your own pace
-
Opportunities to learn new skills through hands-on work, collaboration, and shared knowledge
What we ask for:
-
A minimum stay of three weeks during period 1 (May 2026) or period 2 (June 2026)
-
Around six hours of work per day, five days a week
